A method for transmitting and processing the extended Remote Defection Identification(RDI) message and Backward Defection Identification(BDI) message is disclosed, and the method for transmitting and processing the extended BDI message includes: the end node of the Multi-Protocol Label Switching(MPLS) transmission path generates the extended BDI message as required; and sends the extended BDI message along the MPLS transmission path based on the path identification(ID) which is corresponding to the extended BDI message; when the node which received the extended BDI message of the MPLS transmission path is determined to need to process the extended BDI message, identifies the Type Length Value(TLV) message in the extended BDI message; analyzes and processes the identifiable TLV message. An apparatus for transmitting and processing the extended BDI message is also disclosed, thus not only the compatibility and interoperability of the MPLS device can be ensured, but the transmission efficiency of the link can also be increased. |
