PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a composite material of a cellulose fiber and a thermoplastic resin, which composite material is obtained by uniformly dispersing MFC (microfibrillated cellulose) in the thermoplastic resin, has improved mechanical strength and imparted heat resistance, and further maintains transparency. SOLUTION: The method for producing a cellulose fiber-containing resin material is provided. The method for producing a resin material containing a thermoplastic resin and a surface-treated cellulose fiber with an average fiber diameter of 2-200 nm, comprises: a first mixing step of mixing the surface-treated cellulose fiber, an organic solvent, and the first thermoplastic resin; and a second mixing step of further mixing a second thermoplastic resin therewith whose molecular weight is larger than the first thermoplastic resin.
