The invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid encoding a humanized immunoglobulin that has binding specificity for α4&bgr;7 integrin and comprises the complementarity determining regions (CDRs) of mouse Act-1 antibody. The present invention further relates to an isolated nucleic acid encoding a humanized heavy chain and an isolated nucleic acid encoding a humanized light chain. The invention also relates to recombinant vectors and host cells that comprise a nucleic acid which encodes a humanized immunoglobulin, humanized immunoglobulin heavy chain or a humanized immunoglobulin light chain, and to methods of preparing a humanized immunoglobulin.
