<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality without excessively deteriorating a printing speed. <P>SOLUTION: An original driving signal waveform is used to form dots at a ratio of one to q (q is a predetermined integer of 2 or more) in a plurality of dot positions on each raster line. The number of nozzles n<SB>j</SB>(n<SB>j</SB>is an integer of 2 or more) for forming the dots on a part of the raster lines is set at a value different from that of the number of nozzles for forming the dots on the other raster lines. Furthermore, the i-th nozzle in the nozzles to be used may form dots at a ratio of one to m<SB>i</SB>(m<SB>i</SB>is an integer of 1 or more) in the intermittent dot positions capable of forming dots on one raster line during one scanning.
