PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture Cr-containing bar steel capable of improving scale strippability and excellent in surface property even in a case of the Cr-containing bar steel which contains Cr that affects the scale strippability. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the Cr-containing bar steel that contains 0.10-2.0% of Cr includes: a step a for carrying out descaling to steel slab after taking out the steel slab from a heating furnace; a step b for carrying out hot rolling to the steel slab in atmospheric environment after the step a; and a step c for carrying out descaling to the steel slab after the step b. The hot rolling in the step b is performed under conditions satisfying formulas (1) and (2). In the formulas (1) and (2), R(gas constant) is 8.31×10<SP>-3</SP>kJ/mol*K, T is rolling temperature(°C), wherein 700≤T≤1,000, x is Cr content (mass%) of the steel slab, t is rolling time (second), wherein 20≤t≤200.
