PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handrail device for a doorway of an elevator for surely assisting a movement of a person getting on/off the elevator through the doorway with a simple structure. SOLUTION: Right and left sidewall surfaces of the doorway 1 for the elevator arranged in a building wall 17 facing a passage 3 are made to be inclined surfaces or curved surfaces so as to enlarge opening width of the doorway 1 from the back to the near side of the doorway 1. At least to any one of the right and left sidewall surfaces, a handrail body is arranged in a recessed state substantially at the central part of the sidewall surface in the width direction. Owing to this constitution, the handrail body is located midway between the handrail of the passage 3 side and that of the elevator 5 side, and acts as a bridge-like handrail between the two. Therefore, getting on and off to the elevator 5 through the doorway 1 is safely done by gripping the handrail body, and the effect is remarkable especially for use for an aged person.
