PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas oil composition that can reduce soot emission which has trade-off relation with NOx emission while maintaining the NOx emission low and that can improve an aspect of exhaust gas from a diesel engine. SOLUTION: The gas oil composition has a cetane number of 40-60, a content of total aromatics of 19.0-25.0 vol.%, a content of bicyclic aromatics of 7.0 vol.% or less, a content of tri- or more-cyclic aromatics of 3.5 vol.% or less, a content of naphthene of 7.0-12.0 vol.%, its density at 15°C of 0.79-0.82 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, its kinematic viscosity at 30°C of 1.8-3.0 mm<SP>2</SP>/s, and a 90% distillation temperature of 255-305°C.
