The invention relates to a method and to a distance measurement device (2) for executing the method in order to determine a distance between a reflection element in a line structure and a coupling point for electromagnetic waves provided on an end section of the line structure, wherein the distance measurement device (2) comprises a transmission and receiving device having a line transition (6) provided on a coupling point for coaxial-inductive coupling of the transmission and receiving device to the line structure in order to couple an electromagnetic wave into the line structure and to decouple the electromagnetic wave reflected on the reflection element out of the line structure, and an evaluation device for determining the distance between the coupling point and the reflection element from the phase difference between the coupled electromagnetic wave and the decoupled electromagnetic wave.
