<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for retrieving executable applications, thereby enhancing user's television experiences. <P>SOLUTION: The system for retrieval of executable applications, including: a broadcast television receiver apparatus; and a server, wherein the broadcast television receiver apparatus includes a communication unit having an interface for bidirectional communication with a network and is adapted to determine channel information identifying a currently decoded channel from the channel carried in a broadcast television signal, to send the channel information to the server over the network, and to receive application information describing a set of applications which are available for execution from the server, and to receive executable code components for the corresponding set of applications, and includes a data processor adapted to execute the application whilst the channel is decoded.
