INDUCIBLE TRANSPOSITION IN TRANSGENIC ORGANISM USING TRANSPOSON VECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inducing transposition in a transgenic embryo.

SOLUTION: A progeny including both (i) one or more copies of a transposon and (ii) a gene encoding a transposase cognate of the transposon in the genome of one or more of its cells is provided by (a) preparing a first adult transgenic organism including one or more copies of the transposon in its genome, (b) preparing a second adult transgenic organism including a sequence able to regulate expression of the gene encoding the transposase, and (c) crossing the first adult transgenic organism with the second adult transgenic organism. By using the method, mobilization of the transposon can be advantageously induced at predetermined stages of development of an embryo and the mutated gene of a single cell may be replicated in subsequent cell divisions to provide groups of cells essentially homogeneous for the transposed gene.
