The device (10) has a deflecting roller (12) with a mantle surface (13) and rotated at a longitudinal axis. A pressure roller (15) with another mantle surface (16) is rotated at another longitudinal axis. A gap is provided between the mantle surfaces of the deflecting roller and the pressure roller. A filter tow (11) is introduced into the gap. The mantle surfaces extend into an area of the gap in a longitudinal axial manner. The deflecting roller has elevations (19, 19') extending outwardly in a radial manner. The elevations are arranged at front sides of the deflecting roller.
