<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and image processing method, in which OSD combination can be performed on an HDR (high dynamic range) image, while maintaining a configuration, wherein a memory bandwidth can be saved in OSD (on-screen display) combination. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus has a configuration wherein there is an OSD combination circuit, prior to a double-speed drive circuit. When the double-speed drive circuit has an HDR playback function, an HDR playback section A202 is also provided on the pre-stage of a combination section 105. Output data of the HDR playback section A202 and OSD graphic image data are combined, and the combined image data are played back by an HDR playback section B203, while being double-speed driven.
