<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airbag device for a front passenger seat capable of restraining the distortion of a hinge of a chute member and smoothly opening an airbag door without an increase of a shock at a collision of an instrument panel, or an increase of weight. <P>SOLUTION: The airbag device for a front passenger seat mounted in an instrument panel comprises: an airbag housed in an expandable/deployable state; a housing storing the airbag; and a chute member covering at least a top of the housing. Then, the chute member comprises a top plate integrated with the instrument panel or closely contacting with a rear face of the instrument panel; a side face extending approximately vertically downward from the top plate; a slit formed at the top plate; and a hinge provided on the top plate to open the top plate along the slit.
