<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vehicle that prevents a secondary failure that may occur at the time of an open failure of an inverter. <P>SOLUTION: A motor generator MG1 operates as a generator using power from an engine 4. A motor generator MG2 generates a driving force for the vehicle. A controller 30 detects an open failure in which a switching element is always off in an arm of an inverter 16.
