PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating furnace and a heating method in which the temperature of a slab can more correctly be controlled upon the heating using the heating furnace to prevent the warpage of the slab. SOLUTION: The heating furnace 1, which heats the slab therein while being conveyed in a furnace length direction, comprises: a temperature measurement deice 100 arranged at the part lower than the slab F and measuring the temperature at the lower face; a temperature prediction part 14 predicting the temperature of the slab upon extraction from the measured temperature; and a heating furnace control part 16 controlling at least either the conveying speed or the furnace temperature based on the predicted temperature. The temperature measurement device 100 includes: a luminance measurement part 110 measuring the radiation energy distribution of a metallic material by monochromatic luminance having a wavelength free from the occurrence of absorption and radiation by gas in the furnace; a temperature-known object 120 arranged in the vicinity of the luminance measurement part 110 in the measurement range of the luminance measurement part 110 and correcting stray light; and an operation part 130 subjecting the monochromatic luminance distribution measured by the luminance measurement part 110 to stray light correction and obtaining the temperature distribution of the metallic material F.
