PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple-lead writing instrument which has a compact body and is easy to put in a pocket, a pen case, and so forth, can avoid an unintended pressing of an operating section, and has an excellent appearance design. SOLUTION: A barrel cylinder 2 has a flat shape and includes a pair of large sidewalls 21 having a large area and a pair of small sidewalls 22 having a small area. In the barrel cylinder 2, two writing bodies 6 are housed to be movable in the longitudinal direction. An operating body 7 is connected to the rear end of each writing body 6. Each operating body 7 is equipped with an operating section 71, a front protruding section 72, and a rear protruding section 73 which are formed on the opposite side from the operating section 71. On the internal wall of the barrel cylinder 2, a fastening wall section 43 is installed to which the rear end of the operating body 7 of the writing body 6 is fastened when a pen tip is projected. The operating section 71 of each operating body 7 is projected to the outside from a window hole 41 on the sidewall of the barrel cylinder 2, and the operating section 71 of the operating body 7 is made movable in the longitudinal direction along the window hole 41.
