PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard disk drive with parity function that increases reliability of data by an easy method. SOLUTION: When data are recorded, a controller 11 records the data on a hard disk 13 by block, and a parity is calculated from the data in the block by a predetermined error correction system, and recorded on a flash memory 14. When the data are reproduced, the data are read from the hard disk 13. When a read error is determined in the predetermined block, the parity of the block is read from the flash memory 14 to restore a data error by the predetermined error correction system. The size of a predetermined block length and the predetermined error correction system are set in advance based on the error rate and error distribution by measuring whether the hard disk 13 can record and reproduce sectors.
