<p>A method and system for regulating contact pressure of a sensor is provided. In accordance with an embodiment, a sensor includes a collapsible material capable of regulating the localized component contact pressure exerted on a tissue between a threshold which ensures proper contact between the sensing component and monitoring site but which minimizes incidents of excessive localized pressures which could result in tissue damage over prolonged use. This localized contact pressure range is maintained over a wide range of sensor application pressures. In one embodiment, a window is provided in the sensor and a colorimetric indication of the compression or expansion of the collapsible material may be determined through the window.</p> |
