A glass door hinge comprising an axial spindle having one or more centering surfaces including a main centering surface 11, one or more biasing members including a main biasing member to engage a respective centering surface and return the hinge to a predetermined position; the main biasing member and centering surface returning the hinge to a closed position; when extended, the main biasing member does not intersect the spindle axis. The spindle having one or more stop surfaces 51 displaced relative to the main centering surface to hold the hinge in a predetermined position. The main centering surface may be planar or concave and preferably there are two stop surfaces perpendicular to the main centering surface such that the door may be held open at 90 degrees to the closed position. A cam surface 52 may be provided between the centering and stop surfaces. The stop surfaces may be constructed to require a small force to free the hinge from the held open position. Two secondary centering surfaces 12 may be provided with a secondary biasing member, the main biasing member may be stronger than the secondary bias. A hydraulic damping means may be included. Also claimed are glass door hinge spindles wherein one has a secondary centering surface comprising an cylindrical surface offset from the spindle axis. |
