CRAC temperature control for predicted minimum total energy consumption of AC and IT equipment.

System for controlling an air conditioner (AC) in a room or data centre which accommodates IT equipment, such as computers, senses the air temperature at inlets of the cooled equipment and controls this temperature based on a predicted temperature that minimises the power consumption of the AC and IT equipment taken together. The controller repeatedly detects a value of the total power consumption of the computer equipment and the air conditioner as well as the detected value of an air temperature at the equipment air inlet. The values are stored in a memory, and a quadratic expression is approximated to the values to represent a relation between the total power consumption and the air temperature. The expression is updated as move values are determined. The expression thus predicts a temperature that corresponds to a minimum power consumption, and this is used as the controlled air temperature setting. The predicted temperature is also updated as move values are determined.
