The system has transponders (1) e.g. active or semi-active radiofrequency identification tags, encapsulated on a place in fixed positions. A portable device (2) is carried directly or indirectly by a user, and includes a reader unit (3) i.e. radiofrequency identification reader, to remotely interrogate the transponders and an inertial unit (4). A calculation unit calculates current position of the device based on reading information of the reader unit and measurements of the inertial unit that provides guiding instructions e.g. audio, to guide the user between a position and destination.
