PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably perform fixing on a recording medium, such as an envelope, while suppressing the occurrence of unnecessary wrinkles. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes: a heat roll; an endless belt; and a pressing body forming a pressure contact portion by pressing the endless belt against the peripheral portion of the heat roll from the internal circumferential side of the belt. The pressure body includes: a hard pressure member disposed downstream of the firm contact portion for a recording medium in the direction of recording medium passage and has hardness greater than that of the elastic layer of the heat roll; and a soft pressure member disposed further upstream of the hard pressing member in the direction of the passage and elastically deformable due to its hardness lower than that of the elastic layer of the heat roll. In addition, the length of the firm contact portion in the direction of the passage is set such that the length of the firm contact portion defined by the hard pressure member is longer than that defined by the flexible pressure member. Further, the upstream end of the hard pressure member facing the heat roll in the direction of the passage is formed by a surface approaching the heat roll as it is displaced downstream in the direction of the passage.
