<p>The present invention discloses a multi-channel video communication system, which comprises a scalable video codec, a code stream intercepting module, a network module and a multi-channel code stream intercepting control module, wherein the scalable video codec is used for encoding a video source to generate an original video encoding code stream with scalability and decoding a final video encoding code stream received from a remote client terminal; the code stream intercepting module is disposed between the scalable video codec and the network module, and is used for intercepting the code stream generated by the scalable video codec and transmitting the intercepted code stream to the remote client terminal via the network module; and the multi-channel code stream intercepting control module is connected to the code stream intercepting module and calculates the code stream intercepting parameters of each code stream intercepting device in the code stream intercepting module according to the equipment capability of the remote client terminal and the network status. The present invention also discloses a method for implementing multi-channel video communication by using said multi-channel video communication system. The method includes that: used is a video encoding code stream with scalability in temporal domain, spatial domain and quality generated by the scalable video codec; the acquired code stream is provided with a code stream intercepting condition by the multi-channel code stream intercepting control module, and then is intercepted by the code stream intercepting module according to the code stream intercepting condition, so that the code stream adapted to terminals with different equipment capabilities and network status is acquired and transmitted.
