PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact imaging apparatus which switches focal distance at high speed without moving an objective optical element and a solid-state imaging element. SOLUTION: A position of the objective optical element 10 and a position of the solid-state imaging element 30 as a focal position are made fixed, and a rotation optical magnification device 20 located between those elements switches optical elements by rotation driving at a right angle to the optical axis of the objective optical element 10 to switch the focal distances. A magnification changing section 70 reads out an image of a frame either before or after the focal distance switching, and converts it by reduction or magnification according to the size of the image of the other frame, so that a translation amount operating section 80 calculates a translation amount generated between the images before and after the switching.
