PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for improving the speed of reading an original. SOLUTION: An image scanner 10 includes: an imaging part 150 for imaging a rectangular area AR in a transmitting part 114; a moving part 160 for moving the imaging part 150 in a first scanning direction and a second scanning direction; a route selecting part 812 for selecting a moving route MR on which the moving part 160 moves the imaging part 150 in accordance with an original 90 held by the transmitting part 114; and an image generating part 818 for generating image data representing the original 90 on the basis of image data obtained by imaging a plurality of rectangular areas AR by the imaging part 150.
