A method, device and system for controlling access point are provided in the embodiments of the present invention, wherein the method includes that: receiving the load information of a working access point in a coverage area; performing determination on the current whole capacity of the coverage area based on the load information, performing control on the access points in the coverage area based on the determination result. A network management server comprises a first receiving module, a first determining module and a first controlling module. The system comprises a network management server, a working access point and a non-working access point. The embodiments according to the present invention also provides another method for controlling access point, a primary working access point and a access point control system. With the embodiments of the present invention, the open and close of access points in a same coverage area could be controlled automatically based on the traffic, the reasonable resource utilization could be realized, the manpower cost could be saved, and the work efficiency could be improved.
