PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber-reinforced Al composite material in which a fibrous material is uniformly compounded, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing the fiber-reinforced Al composite material includes: the first step of compacting an Al powder that has a fiber formed on the surface, which includes aluminum carbide as a main component and oxygen in the surface, to form a compact; the second step of heating the compact at a melting point of Al or higher; and the third step of subsequently compressing the compact while keeping Al in the molten condition to densify the compact.
