摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soot detector and soot detection method having a high measurement accuracy and a small time lag in measuring the amount of soot or concentration of soot. <P>SOLUTION: In a step 120, a predetermined pumping voltage is applied between both pumping electrodes 19 and 21, and a predetermined detection voltage is applied between both detection electrodes 25 and 27 (by a second battery 47). In the step 130, pumping current detected by a first ammeter 43 is acquired, and the integration amount (current amount) of the current value from ON of a first switch 45 is calculated. In a step 140, detection current detected by a second ammeter 51 is acquired, and it is determined whether a direct-current resistance between both detection electrodes 25 and 27 becomes a threshold or higher. In other words, the direct-current resistance is determined based on the detection voltage and detection current, and it is determined whether the direct-current resistance is not lower than a threshold showing the resistance value (insulation resistance) indicating complete combustion of soot.
