PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for inspecting the coagulation of the content in a packing container, capable of rapidly, simply and inexpensively inspecting the coagulation of the content sealed in the packing container in a non-destructive manner. SOLUTION: A vibration stand 10 can reciprocally vibrate the packing container 12, in which liquid content is sealed, placed on the upper surface thereof in an almost horizontal direction (direction shown by an arrow 11) and a light source 13 illuminates the liquid content in the packing container 12 from the side position of the packing container 12 having almost the same height as the liquid surface of the liquid content in the packing container 12. A photosensor 14 detects the reflected light due to the shaking of the liquid surface of the liquid content in the packing container 12 to form a reflected light quantity electric signal. A coagulation decision means 15 determines the coagulation state of the liquid content on the basis of a change in the reflected light quantity electric signal of the photosensor 14, which detects a change in the quantity of the reflected light due to the shaking of the liquid surface of the liquid content during the forced vibration of the liquid content and after the stop of the forced vibration of the liquid content when the vibration stand 10 applies the forced vibration to the packing container 12 and the liquid content to subsequently stop.
