An apparatus for improving vehicle fuel efficiency includes an engine (1), a generator system (3) and an air conditioning system (4). The generator system (3) and the air conditioning system (4) are connected by driving components (32, 42) to a first drive pulley (11) and a second drive pulley (12), respectively, which are movably provided in series on the engine central shaft. A first clutch (2A) is provided between said first drive pulley (11) and the engine crankshaft (10), and a second clutch (2B) is provided between the first drive pulley (11) and the second drive pulley (12). Upon receiving a signal, a control circuit (5) actuates the first clutch (2A) and the second clutch (2B) simultaneously or asynchronously to connect or disconnect the engine crankshaft (10) and the first drive pulley (11), and/or to connect or disconnect the first drive pulley (11) and the second drive pulley (12). The control circuit (5) also relies on said signal to determine when to supply power to the generator system (3) directly to make it run, thereby driving the air conditioning system (4).
