PURPOSE: A method for preventing or treating retinal degenerative diseases is provided to treat age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, or retinitis pigmentosa. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating retinal degeneration contains PTEN(phosphatase and tensin homolog), PDZ binding domain of PTEN C-terminal or PTEN activator as an active ingredient. The retinal degeneration is induced by degenerative or oxidative stress. A composition for preventing or treating retinal degeneration contains a promoter which specifically operates in RPE(Retinal pigment epithelium) cells and expression vector which is specifically expressed in RPE. The promoter is TRP1(tyrosinase-related protein 1) promoter or VMD2(vitelliform macular dystrophy).
