PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system for a vehicle capable of securing the safety traveling of the vehicle by surely monitoring a subject such as a rear vehicle and an obstacle existing at a rear side even if an object such as a vehicle exists near the vehicle. SOLUTION: The monitoring device includes a light source 110, an imaging device 120 for imaging the subject illuminated by the light source 110 and a signal processing means for performing signal processing for an imaging signal imaged by the imaging device by an AGC and performing image display on a monitoring device. In this case, a filter 130 having an optical transmission characteristic having different light transmissivity for each region is disposed on a light emission path of light emitted from the light source 110. Even if an object approaching the inside of an imaging region exists, the proper AGC is executed without receiving an influence of strong reflected light by the object, and all subjects can be displayed by proper images on the monitoring device.
