PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector for a measuring object position for accurately detecting the position displaced due to the thermal displacement of a measuring object as a rotor with a simple configuration, and to provide a cutting machine having the detector of the measuring object position. SOLUTION: A position-detecting means 18 faces a flange 66, connected to a chuck 12, and detects the position displaced by thermal displacement of the chuck 12. In other words, the position of the chuck 12 can be detected accurately by using a simple constitution. Since the position detector 18 accurately detects the position, corresponding to the thermal displacement of the chuck, accurate movement of a cutting tool 25 or 26 to a cutting position can be made. Furthermore, position data, or the like, of the chuck 12 can be output via the position detecting means 18, as a member different from the rotating chuck 12 so that a need for a brush holder, or the like, can be eliminated.
