PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for demolishing a floating roof configured so that the floating roof can be demolished away safely and efficiently in a low position near a bottom plate while taking into account of safety and a reduction in temporary equipment. SOLUTION: The floating roof 5 is fixed and supported by a deck support 12 at a predetermined height. Accessory members provided in the upper part and lower part of the floating roof are demolished away. A lowering device 16 is attached to the upper end of the deck support 12, and also a fastener 17 is attached to the deck support 12 near its lower end. Subsequently, the floating roof 5 is lowered along the deck support 12, and the deck plate 6 of the floating roof 5 is cut away at a lower position near the bottom plate 2.
