PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an appliance discrimination gas meter system having a security function corresponding to a used gas appliance, by generating a prescribed stepwise flow rate pattern in the gas appliance, digitizing it, and thereby enabling designation of the gas appliance. SOLUTION: The gas appliance 2a has a flow-rate adjusting means 3a for adjusting a gas flow rate to be used, and the flow-rate adjusting means 4 generates a prescribed stepwise flow rate pattern, and the prescribed stepwise flow rate pattern is binarized, by combining a time with a flow rate step, for example, Hi-Lo or Hi-OFF, to thereby enable discrimination of the gas appliance 2a. Consequently, measurement of the gas flow rate and acquisition of its characteristic flow rate pattern are not required, and the gas appliance can be treated by means of a numerical value for designation, and discrimination of the appliance becomes sure and easy, and a security function corresponding to the used gas appliance can be added.
