Translucent molded body made from a polystyrene-particle foam material, where the molded body exhibits an average cell value of 0.1-5 cells/mm and a bending strength according to EN 12089 of 70-350 kPa, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparing the translucent molded body, comprising: impregnating a polystyrene melt with 2-8 parts by weight of a volatile hydrocarbon and 0.01-0.1 part by weight of water as a propellant and granulating in a submarine granulator under pressure into an expandable polystyrene (EPS); coating the separated EPS granulate with a mixture containing 20-80 wt.% of glycerin tristearate, 10-50 wt.% of glycerin monostearate and 5-30 wt.% of silicate; and foaming the coated EPS granulate with a thickness of 10-20 g/l in a molded part automatic machine; and (2) a composite structure comprising the molded body and at least a disc from glass or transparent plastics.
