PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera that improves focusing accuracy at an infinite end of AF, and to provide a portable terminal device and a method for controlling the position of a lens. SOLUTION: The camera 100 has an infinity side mechanical endpoint 151 being a mechanical endpoint in a range where a lens 112 can be driven, and an optical infinite end adjusted value 153 being an optical endpoint in a range where the lens can be focused on an optical axis of the lens 112. An AF controller 140 controlling the position of the lens 112 starts AF scanning toward the optical infinite end adjusted value 153 after moving the lens 112 to the infinity side mechanical endpoint 151 by a predetermined amount to extend over the optical infinite end adjusted value 153 at the start of AF.
