PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple, light weight and low cost variable valve train for an internal combustion engine variably controlling open period of a valve. SOLUTION: A rotary cam 4 of the variable valve train 1 for the internal combustion engine includes a fixed cam 4a and a movable cam 4b. The fixed cam 4a is fixed in an axial direction of the camshaft 2 and a rotation direction around the shaft, the movable cam 4b is movable in the axial direction and the rotation direction, and the fixed cam 4a and the movable cam 4b are fixed with position of cam lobes 4s thereof shifted in a rotation direction. Push down period of a rocker arm 7 by the rotation cam 4 is changed to change open period of the valve 3 by shifting the positions of cam lobes of the fixed cam 4a and the movable cam 4b in the rotation direction during valve lift.
