Disclosed are a video image processing device, a video image processing method, an information storage medium, and a program which are capable of expanding the width of variation in subtitles which are to be displayed and outputted on a screen with a video image and can be changed by a user. A screen displaying and outputting unit (26) displays and outputs a screen including a video image area in which a frame image included in the video image is to be displayed and a subtitle area in which the subtitle to be associated with at least a part of the video image is to be displayed. An area change instruction accepting unit (32) accepts from the user an instruction to change the shape and/or the size, within the screen, of the subtitle area and/or the video image area. An area changing unit (34) changes the shape and/or the size of the subtitle area within the screen according to the instruction which the area change instruction accepting unit (32) accepts.
