PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition for treating cachexia, and in particular for treating cancer cachexia. SOLUTION: A medical agent for preventing or treating an exhaustion disease in mammal comprises a lanostane compound shown by formula (I) or the salt thereof pharmaceutically permitted as an active ingredient. In the formula, R<SB>1</SB>is -H or -CH<SB>3</SB>and; R<SB>2</SB>is -OCOCH<SB>3</SB>, =O or -OH and; R<SB>3</SB>is -H or -OH; R<SB>4</SB>is -C(=CH<SB>2</SB>)-C(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB>R<SB>a</SB>or the like; R<SB>5</SB>is -H or -OH; R<SB>6</SB>is -CH<SB>3</SB>or -CH<SB>2</SB>OH.
