PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera unit which can be made thinner in shape, by appropriately shortening the length of a collapsed lens barrel, in the optical axis direction without causing increase in cost. SOLUTION: In a photographing-disabled state for the collapsed lens barrel 1, an aperture 8a of an aperture control member 8 is kept open, and then, the aperture control member 8 is brought in contact with a stopper member 14z, disposed on a base member 14 in accordance with the collapse of the lens barrel 1; and the aperture control member 8 is displaced toward an object side, with respect to a frame member 7 against the energizing force of an energizing member 42, and then at least a part of a predetermined lens group 23 or of a holding frame is made to advance to the aperture 8a.
