<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which has a swelling type ink receiving layer having excellent ink absorptivity and wherein a printed image having excellent glossiness and scratch resistance, and high image quality wherein bleeding and bronzing are not conspicuous can be obtained by a printing system such as an ink jet system. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium having at least an optical recording layer 2 and the ink receiving layer 5 on a light transmissive substrate 1, the ink receiving layer 5 contains ≥50 wt.% water soluble polymer and further contains at least one selected from the group consisting of a urea derivative, an aromatic carboxylic acid and its salt.
