[Class 87, (i)] [Also in Groups XXII, XIII and XXXIII] A structural member comprising parallel and substantially plane walls 1, 2 interconnected by transverse members 3 of zig-zag, undulating; cylindrical or polygonal form is constructed by applying the walls 1 and 2 in a plastic condition to the transverse members, which are in. a hard condition, and then rolling or pressing to form a complete unit A binding medium may be applied between the edges of the filler members and the plane walls. The invention is intended more particularly for metallic structures for aircraft but can also be applied to members made of paste-board, fibre, synthetic resin or other suitable artificial material. When metallic structures are being made, the plane walls are heated to the forging temperature of the metal before being applied to the transverse members. |
