The polishing machine has a workpiece carrier (10), where a polishing portal (14) is arranged over the workpiece carrier. The polishing portal is movable linearly relative to the workpiece carrier. The polishing portal has a continuously circulating polishing belt (24) which runs over the entire width of a workpiece (12) in a direction. A lower lump (28) of the polishing belt is pressed against a surface area of the workpiece by a pressing device (30).
