The automatic transmission may further include a transmission case (6) having a peripheral wall (51) for at least partially enclosing a gear shift mechanism (5) and an outer wall (52) provided adjacent to said peripheral wall (51), wherein said electric control unit (25) is located within a containing space (53) surrounded by said peripheral wall (51), said outer wall (52) and said valve body (44).</p>
