The method involves arranging a roller frame (10) with rollers (2) in a calibration stand. Actual calibration of the rollers in calibration position (A) is measured. A deviation amount between the calibration position and a roller position in a setting direction is determined for achieving ideal roller position. Roller positioning units (6) are adjusted towards the direction around the amount. The operation of the roller in a rolling mill is begun from the ideal roller position of the positioning units and the rollers, where the frame is ready to operate by obtaining the ideal position. An independent claim is also included for a system for setting ideal position of the roller in the rolling mill stand.
