PURPOSE: An image sensor for recognizing the character and a method for sensing an image are provided to reduce the data amount for recognizing character, thereby reducing the load. CONSTITUTION: An image sensor(210) for recognizing the character includes a photographing unit(211), a determination unit(212), and a conversion unit(213). The photographing unit photographs an image. The determination unit text image area and non-text image area in the photographed image. The conversion method converse the information of the determined text image area into binary information. The non-text image area is removed.
