A tool for placing travellers on the rings of ring spinning and like machines comprises a guide element 5 along which travellers 1 may be arranged side by side, a stop 4 adjacent one end of the guide element 5 and spaced from it by a distance equal to the width of a traveller 1, resilient means, such as a spring 6, urging the travellers 1 along the guide element 5 towards the stop 4 and means for forcing one of the travellers 1 on to a ring 2. When applying a traveller, the base of the stop 4 rests upon a ring rail and a hooked nose part of the stop passes over the upper edge of the ring and within the lip to locate the tool correctly and to provide a reaction force when the traveller is forced on to the ring. A pivoted part 9 is manually urged against spring pressure towards the traveller 1 that lies across the space between the guide element 5 and the stop 4 to force it on to the ring 2. In order to accommodate travellers of different sizes, the stop 4 is adjustable relative to the guide 5. Reserve travellers are mounted within a tube 18 releasably mounted in a tubular holder 11. Replacement magazines adapted to be temporarily attached to the end of the guide 5 are supplied ; these may be cylinders with retaining latches at their ends or may be of V-section to engage the internal surfaces of the travellers at three points. |
