Magnetic drill stand with retention force monitoring

The stand (10) has electromagnets (14) fixing the stand to a ferromagnetic component (12). A voltage source is coupled with the electromagnets. A safety device (28) monitors retaining force of the electromagnets. The safety device includes a monitoring device for monitoring current intensity of the electromagnets. The safety device produces a signal for magnet retaining force within a test phase when the current intensity of the electromagnets lies at two preset time points after beginning of the test phase below a preset threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring retaining force of electromagnets in a magnetic drill stand.
