<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a pyruvic ester by oxidizing a methacrylic ester with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an inexpensive and readily available catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the pyruvic ester of formula(2)(wherein, R is a 1-4C alkyl) comprises reacting a methacrylic ester of formula(1)(wherein, R is the same as mentioned above) with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst comprising a vanadium oxide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
